GoPro video found in Himalayas shows mountaineers’ final moments

Authorities have recovered a GoPro video in the Indian Himalayas, which shows the final moments of the eight climbers who went missing and died there earlier this year.

The footage was discovered on a “memory video device” at 19,000 feet — near the Nada Devi East, where the climbers’ bodies were found, according to the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

It was posted online Monday, along with a statement.

“Last visuals of the mountaineers’ team near the summit on unnamed peak,” ITBP officials tweeted. “ITBP search team of mountaineers found the memory video device at 19K ft while they were searching the area where bodies were spotted.”

The slain climbers — which included two Americans, four Britons, an Australian and their Indian liaison officer — had been missing for a week before their presumed deaths. Their bodies were recovered a month later on June 23.

Authorities believe the group was struck and killed by an avalanche.
